Technology within the industry can be a successful solution to combat counterfeit medicines reaching the market, with some of the most successful technologies including, track and trace, serialisation, packaging and labelling methods, such as holograms, and many more. The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) has come to the conclusion that the Datamatrix code is the most the most effective and simple way to circumvent counterfeiters, but it is not the only way and several countries have developed their own mass serialisation systems in conjunction with other existing technologies to deter counterfeiters.
